Crime: Criminalidade nos casinos continua activa (opinião)

  NELSON KOT*  27 Jun, 2025 Recentemente, foi noticiado em jornais que um jovem não residente perdeu o seu capital de jogo num casino na Taipa, e pediu emprestados 500 mil dólares de Hong Kong a agiotas no casino para usar esse dinheiro como capital de jogo, mas a condição era que seriam cobrados 20% de juros por cada aposta. No entanto, após uma hora de jogo, o jovem perdeu todo o dinheiro emprestado, e foi sequestrado pelos agiotas durante várias horas. Além disso, foi instado a pedir dinheiro emprestado a um amigo para poder ser “libertado”. Felizmente, o jovem avisou secretamente o amigo para o ajudar a alertar a polícia. Mais tarde, a Polícia Judiciária (PJ) chegou ao local e conseguiu resgatar a vítima e deter dois indivíduos. Neste caso, os agiotas arrecadaram “juros” superiores a 300 mil HKD da vítima, o que é um montante muito impressionante. Casino industry urged to prioritise environmental protection, social well-being: study

 jul25 The development of Macau’s gaming industry should place greater emphasis on environmental protection and social welfare, according to a new study published in the latest issue of Global Gaming & Tourism Research by Macau Polytechnic University. The research, titled “Research on the Impact of Macau’s Gaming Industry on the Regional Economy and the Exploration of Its Sustainable Development Path”, was led by Yu Wai Hang, a lecturer at the Macau University of Science and Technology and chairman of the Macau Regional Economic Research Association. Analysing data from 2012 to 2022, the study found a “coordinated” positive relationship between gaming revenue and Macau’s sustainable development — particularly in the years before the Covid-19 pandemic disrupted the tourism-dependent economy. GGR surge seemingly sparked by direct VIP, ultra-premium mass gaming customers

 jul25 The unexpected resurgence of Macau gaming revenues over the past two months, which culminated in  June GGR smashing consensus at 19% year-on-year growth , appears to have been supported by the performance of the high-end gaming segments, according to investment bank JP Morgan. Analysts said in a Tuesday note that their on-the-ground checks indicate direct VIP and ultra-premium mass performed particularly well throughout the month, enough to drive June revenues back to 88% of pre-COVID levels – by far the highest recovery rate since the pandemic. The June result also saw combined Q2 GGR come in 8% higher year-on-year and 6% higher sequentially at MOP$61 billion on the back of a similarly impressive May.
