Londoner phase 2
The full transformation of what used to be the Sands Cotai Central casino resort in Macau’s Cotai district into the Londoner Macao should be completed by early 2025, according to the management of Las Vegas Sands Corp. The latter is the parent company of Macau-based casino operator Sands China Ltd, which runs the property.
Las Vegas Sands had said in July that the US$1-billion phase two of the Londoner Macao property (pictured) was to be completed by 2026. According to an investor presentation published on Wednesday, the redevelopment is still scheduled to start next month, but completion has been move forward to around January 2025, on time for the Chinese New Year festive season, usually a peak season for Macau’s gaming industry.

Sands China, the local subsidiary of global gaming giant Las Vegas Sands, will invest “a lot more” into Macau than pledged under its new 10-year concession contract, the company’s Chairman and CEO, Robert Goldstein, has revealed.
Goldstein was speaking with US business media outlet CNBC ahead of last week’s launch of The Londoner Macao – a US$2 billion transformation of the former Sands Cotai Central. Sands China has also pledged to spend another MOP$30.2 billion (US$3.8 billion) during its current concession contract, of which MOP$27.8 billion (US$3.5 billion), around 92%, is planned to be in non-gaming initiatives.
Asked in a lengthy interview with CNBC to explain some of the company’s planned non-gaming investments, Goldstein replied, “It’s irrelevant because we pledged what we pledged, but we’re going to spend much more than that.

The idea of a new hotel tower for Cotai Expo at the Venetian Macao casino resort would represent capital expenditure (capex) additional to the MOP30 billion (US$3.72 billion) pledged by Sands China Ltd as part of its successful bid for a new 10-year Macau gaming concession that began in January. That is according to Robert Goldstein (pictured), chairman and chief executive of the parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp, in an interview with GGRAsia.
Mr Goldstein said regarding the plan for the additional hotel: “We don’t have any approval yet to do that. It depends on the government’s willingness to let us invest in a new hotel. We’ve had those conversations: the government, they know our intentions, and we will wait for their advice.”
Asked if such a hotel would be part of the concession-investment package, Mr Goldstein stated: “No. Separate.”

That is according to a Wednesday report from Chinese-language news outlet Macao Daily News, indirectly citing Sands China’s president, Wilfred Wong Ying Wai.
The Cotai Expo expansion plan was now in its “preliminary design” stage, but included the idea of additional hotel rooms atop a circa 18,000-square-metre (193,750-sq.-feet) supplement to its capacity for meetings and conferences, Mr Wong was reported as saying.
